Housed within the historic walls of the Bank of England, the Museum offers a fascinating walk through the institution’s history, from its foundation in 1694 until the present day. Visitors can learn the central roles the Bank plays in the UK economy, which include keeping inflation low, issuing banknotes and working to keep the financial system stable. Its unique collections of coins, banknotes and artefacts are supplemented by audio-visual and interactive displays. Visitors can even handle a real gold bar!
The entrance to the Museum is in Bartholomew Lane, London EC2R 8AH. The Museum is open Monday to Friday, from 10.00am to 5.00pm. It is closed on Public and Bank Holidays. Entry is free.
